Rich people lived in houses called domus. Country houses for rich people were called the villa's. They had running water and poor people didn't. Poor people lived on the top of apartments that were made from wood. Most apartments either caught on fire and burned down, or got crashed. Poor people didn't have running water, toilets, or kitchens. Jobs weren't easy for the poor people. Mostly all of the poor people were slaves. Rome wouldn't even allow poor people to make a will. The only way poor people could do some of the things rich people do would be was by being freed. Due to not having a good job for the poor people they had small simple diets. Most of the time they had to buy food from the shops. They couldn't cook inside do to the Poor people weren't even allowed to be in the court of justice. Jobs for the rich were easy to get. Examples of jobs that rich people could get were a teacher, construction worker, a merchant or a farmer. Only Roman citizens were allowed to wear tunics. The rich people were allowed to wear tunics and togas. Poor people had the cheapest type of clothing's. The poorer you were the cheaper the clothing material was. You couldn't even try to buy anything close to what the rich people had. Rich people's clothing were not made out of cheap clothing. RIch people wore different types of togas. All of the togas were not all of the same. Each distinctive type could mark a roman's societal status or their title. |
